Sunken ships are home to several fish and corals; its rusted and old helmets become over time artificial reefs, some of great archaeological and historical interest.

Over the years, marine plants are embedded in the structure, while moray eels, octopi and conger eel hide in their holes, taking advantage of the shelter and protection offered to them.

Small fish often surround the hull and the larger ones prowl around to feed on the smaller ones. This makes sunken ships a great experience for diving and underwater research.

In some places the routes are marked with lines that guide you inside the structure of the boat, or submersible brochures that indicate the most relevant data. In history, there are many unknown shipwrecks that are located in very deep waters, which makes it very difficult for recreational divers to access and only those with special training can go down. In general, these types of boats are made of metal, but they also exist in wood, coming from hundreds of years ago, and in them you can admire ancient and strange artifacts.

At present the information on recent shipwrecks is quite accessible, among which is Ferri Salvatierra, who was traveling from La Paz to Mazatlan. Normally you can dive in all the shipwrecks of the world, but for some special permission is required, such as historical declared or war cemeteries. In addition, in some places boats have been sunk at shallow depth, with the purpose of making artificial reefs and to facilitate the access of this type of diving to more people.

The structures of these boats tend to be safer, because before being deposited in the sea they were completely cleaned, leaving the pure hull, without cables or other objects that make diving more complicated and technical. This makes them a good place to practice it.
